Clean Your Deck

Hey there, Aussie homeowners! If you've got a deck, you know how much of a beating it can take from our crazy climate. Between the moisture absorption and loss that causes your timber to swell and shrink, and the hairline cracks and peeling that inevitably follow, it can feel like a constant battle to keep your deck looking good. But don't fret, there are plenty of products out there that can help keep your outdoor oasis in tip-top shape, without costing a fortune or requiring endless upkeep. In this blog post, we're gonna dish on our fave deck-cleaning and protection products that'll keep your deck looking fly AF for the long haul. So grab a cold one, kick back, and get ready to take your deck game to the next level.

CLEANING

Cleaning your deck is a crucial step in maintaining its appearance and longevity. Using the right cleaning product can do wonders for keeping your deck looking vibrant and free of dirt and debris. Not only that, but it can also prime the surface for any oil applications you plan to do later on.

So, what kind of product should you use? We recommend a cleaner that's specifically designed for timber decks and furniture. A good cleaner will not only clean and revitalise your deck, but it will also remove sun bleached discolourations, stains, grease, and dirt. Plus, it'll kill any mildew or algae that might be lurking on your deck, which can cause rot and other damage over time.

Another benefit of using a good deck cleaner is that it neutralises any previous cleaners or waxes that might be on the surface. This is important because if you don't neutralise these residues, they can interfere with any oil applications you do later on, leading to poor results.

And don't worry about harming your surrounding environment – a good deck cleaner will not kill aquatic life, plants, or lawns. So, you can rest assured that you're doing your part to keep your deck looking great while also being environmentally responsible.

In conclusion, using the right cleaning product is essential for keeping your deck looking vibrant and clean. A good deck cleaner will remove stains, dirt, and mildew, neutralise any previous residues, and prepare the surface for oil applications. And best of all, you can do it all without harming the environment!

PROTECTING

When it comes to protecting your deck, oil-based products are an excellent option to consider. These products penetrate beyond the surface level and lock in the natural tannins, providing long-term protection for your timber. But what exactly are tannins, you might be wondering? Well, they're natural properties of timber that, after absorbing water, can be extracted to the surface, causing discolouration and dark stains known as timber 'leaching.'

Using oil-based products on your deck can help you avoid this problem. They work by repelling water and preventing absorption, which means water will bead on the surface instead of seeping into the wood. This will also help preserve the natural colour of your timber by locking in the tannins and preventing discolouration.

Using oil-based products on your deck can provide long-lasting protection against water absorption, discolouration, cracking, distortion, and peeling. By locking in natural tannins, you can maintain the natural colour of your timber and avoid the need for costly maintenance and repairs. So, if you want to keep your deck looking great for years to come, consider using oil-based products to protect and preserve it.

HOW TO OIL

  1. Poor choice of oil into a bucket that will fit your applicator mop.
  2. Dip applicator into bucket but do not flood the applicator, remove excess oil before application.
  3. Apply oil evenly, both with and against the grain.  For hard to reach places, use a brush or applicator by hand.
  4. Make sure to work the oil into the timber to smooth the surface and work the oil deep into the timber fibres.
  5. Allow 2-3 hours for the timber to absorb the oil, ensuring you do not over apply the oil.
